CLARENCE GOSSE. Photograph Mount signed: "Clarence L Gossse/Lt Governor of Nova Scotia./December 1975" on inside front cover. B/w, 4¾x6¼ overall, image 3½x5 (two surfaces). Front cover is imprinted with a colored flag of Nova Scotia. Captioned at lower margin on inside front cover: "Nova Scotia has the proud distinction of being the only Province of Canada and the first Colony of Great Britain to possess, through Royal Charter, a flag of its own. The Flag of Nova Scotia traces its origin to the Charter of New Scotland granted in 1621 to Sir William Alexander (afterwards the Earl of Stirling) by King James VI of Scotland and I of England." Captioned on facing page beneath photograph: "Government House Halifax, Nova Scotia." Clarence Lloyd Gosse (1912-1996) was the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1973-1978. A physician and veteran of WWII, Gosse was a Professor of Urology at Dalhousie University and Chair of the Department of Urology at the Victoria General and Camp Hill hospitals following the war. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1982. Minor vertical striation (barely visible) on photograph.
